About Kenton Youth
Based in a working professional theatre, Kenton Youth gives young people the chance to experience theatre in its broadest sense.
Open to all backgrounds and experience levels, the programme offers young people the opportunity to learn, create and grow while developing performance, technical and life skills in a supportive and inspiring environment.
From acting, singing and movement to backstage, costume, lighting and sound, Kenton Youth is a place to build confidence, discover new interests and understand how theatre really comes together.
No auditions. No experience needed.
What to expect:
Kenton Youth runs on Mondays across three ten week terms, giving children and young people the chance to build their skills, confidence and creativity throughout the year.
Junior Group
Years 5 and 6
5pm to 6pm
Senior Group
Years 7 to 11
6.15pm to 7.30pm
Until 7.45pm for those taking Bronze Arts Award
Across the year, participants will explore theatre in its broadest sense through a hands on, skills based programme.
This may include acting, singing, movement, stage management, lighting and sound, storytelling, scriptwriting, make up and costume design.
They will also have direct access to facilitators with creative, technical and professional expertise, take part in a West End professional masterclass, enjoy a group trip to The Kenton pantomime and have opportunities to participate in key community events, including Kenton Carols, Henley Youth Festival and Henley Drama Festival.
The year will culminate in a summer showcase performance and awards ceremony, celebrating everything the group has learned, created and achieved.

Sample curriculum
Kenton Youth explores theatre in its broadest sense, with each term focusing on a different stage of the creative process.
Autumn Term: Skills Development
Participants will be introduced to core theatre skills including dance, drama, improvisation, musical theatre, costume design, scriptwriting, stage make up, stage lighting, physical comedy and pantomime.
Spring Term: Consolidation and Industry Skills
The spring term builds on these foundations with sessions in review writing, stage combat, puppetry, stage management, physical theatre, photography, sound and lighting effects, and arts inspiration work.
Summer Term: Showcase Creation
The final term focuses on creating and preparing a themed showcase. Participants will explore showcase design, marketing, props, lighting, sound and performance preparation, before taking part in an end of year showcase and awards celebration.
