New paid theatre opportunity for young people at The Kenton

The Kenton Theatre has launched a new paid opportunity for a young person to gain hands on experience across the running of a busy working theatre.

The six month Theatre Operations Assistant placement is being offered through Artswork’s Breakthrough Programme and will give the successful applicant the chance to build practical skills across a wide range of areas.

Based at The Kenton Theatre in Henley on Thames, the role will include experience in Box Office, Front of House, hospitality, volunteer support, marketing, fundraising and events.

The successful applicant will also have the chance to be involved in some of the biggest moments in The Kenton’s year, including the annual pantomime and the continued development of Kenton Youth.

The new placement is part of The Kenton’s commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation and helping young people discover the many different careers that exist within theatre and the creative industries.

Lottie Pheasant, Theatre Manager at The Kenton Theatre, said:

“The Kenton has always been at the heart of its community, and an important part of our future is making sure that young people have opportunities to discover where they could fit within theatre and the wider creative industries.

“There are so many different careers behind every performance an audience sees on stage, and this placement offers the chance to experience many of them.

“We are really looking forward to welcoming a young person into the team, helping them discover their strengths and interests and supporting them as they take their first steps into the industry.”

The placement will be shaped around the successful applicant’s interests, strengths and future ambitions, helping them gain meaningful experience in the areas most relevant to them.

The Theatre Operations Assistant role is for 25 hours per week and is paid at £12.71 per hour.

The six month placement will run from 28 September 2026 to 28 March 2027.

Applicants must be aged 18 to 25 on 28 September 2026 and meet the full Breakthrough Programme eligibility criteria.

Applications close at 11.45pm on Monday 27 July 2026.
