Arts Award

About Arts Award

Kenton Youth is delighted to offer all students the opportunity to work towards an Arts Award qualification, should they wish to do so.

Arts Award invites young people into the exciting world of theatre, where imagination, creativity and self-expression come together, and every voice has a place. As students explore different aspects of theatre – including acting, directing, technical theatre and design – they embark on a creative journey that helps them discover their potential, build confidence and develop their own artistic voice. Whether performing on stage or working behind the scenes, students gain a deeper understanding of how theatre brings stories to life and connects communities.

Theatre naturally encourages teamwork, communication and creative problem-solving, while also providing opportunities for students to take the lead, reflect on their progress and support others. Through Arts Award, students can achieve a nationally recognised qualification, managed by Trinity College London in association with Arts Council England, which nurtures individual interests while helping to develop valuable life skills that support both future education and employment.

How it works:

There are five levels of the Arts Award – Discover, Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Initially, Kenton Youth will be offering Art Award Explore to those in the Junior class and the Bronze to those in the Senior.

Arts Award Explore

Arts Award Explore encourages students from ages 7-11 years, to experience different aspects of the theatre, art and artists and to develop their own creativity. Throughout the weeks, they record what they’ve achieved and enjoyed in their Arts Log.

To achieve this award, students create a personal arts log, in a format of their choice, presenting evidence of:

  • taking part in a range of activities – including a personal response about what has inspired them
  • researching the work of artists, craftspeople or arts organisations
  • creating a piece of work
  • sharing with others what they have enjoyed and achieved through completing their Arts Award

It typically takes 25 guided learning hours plus 10 independent learning hours to complete this award.

Bronze Award

Bronze Arts Award develops young people’s artistic abilities alongside their research and communication skills. This level involves them in the arts as creators and audience members and encourages them to take their first steps towards leadership by sharing their learning with others.

For a young person to achieve Bronze Arts Award, their portfolio must include evidence of:

  • actively participating in any art form
  • experience at least one arts event and reviewing it
  • researching the career and work of an artist or craftsperson
  • passing on an arts skill

Bronze Arts Award is designed for ages 11 to 14 and is open to anyone up to the age of 25. It typically takes 40 guided learning hours and 20 independent learning hours to complete (60 hours total qualification time).

Cost:

The option for your child to participate in the Arts Award is not compulsory and there is an additional cost attached.

Explore – £100 per year

Bronze – £150 per year

As the Arts Award requires a set number of guided learning hours, there is a deadline for registrations. The latest date to register for the coming year is Monday 26 October.
