It’s New Year’s Eve in Vienna, 1899. A now married Rosalinde, is serenaded by her old beau Alfred. Her maid Adele tries to get the night off but is refused. Her husband, Gabriel, is sentenced to 8 days in goal but is persuaded to go the extravagant masked ball being held by the wealthy Prince Orlofsky instead of starting his term … and thus the scene is set.
